Community Rules

How to behave in Synapse so the game stays a game.

Version 1.0 · Effective from 10 August 2026

In short

  • Respect the people you play with. Insults and harassment are not jokes and not part of the game.
  • Do not impersonate the administration, moderators or other players.
  • Do not inflate rating: arranged matches, second accounts and bots are prohibited.
  • Do not upload other people's work without the right to, and do not publish unacceptable content.
  • Spam, fraud, malicious links and attempts to harm the site are prohibited.
  • Found a bug? Report it, do not exploit it.
  • Breaking the rules limits your access. You will be told why, and you can respond.

This summary does not replace the full text and is provided for convenience only.

1. The main rule

Synapse is about knowledge and conversation. On the other side of the screen is a person, and playing over the internet does not make them less of one.

These rules are part of the Terms of Service. They apply in rooms, in chat, in packs, in nicknames and in messages to the administration.

2. Respect for people

  • insults, humiliation and personal attacks;
  • harassment and stalking, including as a group;
  • threats of any kind;
  • inciting hatred or hostility on any grounds;
  • publishing someone's personal data without consent;
  • unwanted persistent messages after being asked to stop.

3. Fair play

  • arranged matches and deliberate losses to boost someone's rating;
  • using second accounts to inflate rating or ratings of packs;
  • bots, scripts and any automation of play;
  • exploiting service bugs instead of reporting them;
  • a host feeding answers to friends in a rated game;
  • deliberately ruining a match that involves other people.

4. One person, one account

A second account created to evade a restriction, inflate rating, rate your own pack or continue harassing someone is a violation.

Handing your account to someone else is also a violation: rules and consequences are attached to the account.

5. Impersonation

  • posing as the owner or a moderator of Synapse;
  • posing as another player;
  • names and avatars that create the impression of official status.

6. Pack content

  • material you do not hold the rights to;
  • unlawful content;
  • sexual material involving minors — absolutely prohibited and reported to the proper authorities;
  • gratuitous violence and shock content without purpose or warning;
  • material inciting hatred;
  • advertising and commercial inserts disguised as questions.

7. Spam and fraud

  • mass-sending identical messages and requests;
  • fraud and any attempt to extract money or data;
  • malicious links and files;
  • fake giveaways, raffles and “gifts”;
  • requests to share your password — the administration never does this.

8. Service security

If you find a vulnerability, tell the administration. Reporting a problem is not a violation; exploiting it is.

  • attempts to attack Synapse infrastructure;
  • load and brute-force attacks;
  • attempts to bypass rate limits and permission checks;
  • interfering with other players' connections.

9. Evading penalties

Coming back through a new account while a restriction is active is a violation in its own right, and it makes the consequences heavier.

10. Reports

Report violations via “Contact the administration”. Describe what happened; if it concerns a message, you may attach its text.

Knowingly false reports, and using reports as a tool of pressure, are themselves violations.

11. Consequences

Depending on severity: a warning, a time-limited restriction of some features, withdrawal of a pack from publication, or a permanent block.

You will be told what was done and why. The decision can be discussed by contacting the administration.

Where dangerous or unlawful material must be closed off immediately, access is restricted first and the notice sent afterwards.

12. Common sense

Not every possible violation can be listed. If an action clearly harms other players or the service, it is unacceptable even if not named above.
